History
George Teague attended the University of Alabama and was a member of the Crimson Tide football team from 1989 through 1993. During that time, the team won two SEC Championships and the 1992 National Championship. George was selected in the first round of the 1993 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. In that same year, George and his wife Consuela formed Teague's League. This was a very exciting and special time in George's life and an opportunity to give back to his community. This project was created so that George could use his position as a professional athlete to cultivate programs and charitable events to help children and those less fortunate. Since its inception, Teague's League has been involved in numerous charitable events. For example, Teague's League joined forces with singer Michael Bolton to host charitable softball games that raised nearly $500,000 in three years to benefit battered women ,and the Rebecca Fund, which helps children with cancer while being treated at the Wisconsin Children's Hospital. For the past several years, Teague's League has hosted a charity basketball game the Friday night before the University of Alabama football team's annual A-Day game. These charity games have featured former Tide football greats such as Prince Wimbley, John Copeland, Dwayne Rudd, Eric Curry, Derrick Lassic, Lamonde Russell, Antonio Langham, Sam Shade, Roger Shultz and many others. As of June, 2001, George Teague & Friends Foundation, Inc., was formally established as a 501-C3, non-profit exempt status. The primary focus of the Foundation continues to be community and children educational and mentor programming. During the spring of 2002, players returned to their home-based schools to speak to children about positive life decisions. The effort will be extended to include other schools and social settings as coordinated by first come, first served requests. These requests will be made by parent groups, school administrators, religious leaders or social service groups. |
